Extremely disheartened by the conversation I have tried to have with STEM academics today on this platform. It just does NOT get through that journals are not only instances of evaluation, but actual loci of intellectual life that nurture, in their plurality, whole disciplines. It saddens me that there is such an intractable impossibility to understand each other on such a fundamental issue. Without this, however, any reform of academic publishing can only harm the HSS. #AcademicPublishing
