I appreciate that, as a distinguished and ethical journalist, Margaret Sullivan refuses to relent in her ongoing critique of the colossal failure of US corporate media at this critical juncture in history.

All news outlets have bias of course. But there are real problems with the public thinking the for-profit news is there for the public benefit.
I find both AP and Reuters to be pretty good. The Guardian has the perspective of being an international org (it's sort of the way expats don't vote for the local right-wing parties).
Then there the non-profit outlets, Pro Publica is excellent, the Philadelphia Inquirer is more local but also good. I don't have tv.

@CelloMomOnCars @wdlindsy I am not so sure about that anymore. Almost everyone I know is very aware of the major bias of the, what I call tabloid and for profit, news. I never watch tv news except Rachael Maddow occasionally but I find her repetitive style annoying.

I find it distressing how many of my (perfectly smart, very engaged) friends give me a blank look when I point out the problems with the way the NYTimes has covered Biden.

The @MeidasTouch has grown into a very good independent news and analysis organization imo in terms of political and especially legal issues related to U.S. government. -

@wdlindsy The solution is simple, stop covering him.

@wdlindsy @CelloMomOnCars Thanks for raising this question. I’m getting asked too and the askers don’t want anything that seems partisan in a left leaning way. So, my thought was for the Guardian. And/or Do you have comments about The Christian Science Monitor?

I want to make clear that my comment is not intended as ciritcism of @wdlindsy. I have my favourite authors on substack too. But the work of figuring out what's worthwhile is exhausting! In science, that's what peer review is for. So I'm grateful for @wdlindsy's painstaking work, a different and necessary kind of peer review.
As for the Guardian, @mmb , editorially it's to the left of the European center.
You can look up specific outlets on the Media Bias Fact Check

@wdlindsy He doesn’t have money for campaigning…so he uses the MSM for it. I think MSM knows what they are doing…billionaires do not want us to tax their apartheid system.

@mmb @CelloMomOnCars I haven't honestly ever spent much time reading the Christian Science Monitor. One thing I can say: I have a former friend who leans strongly libertarian and who believes all traditional media outlets are biased either to the left or right, and he trusts only the Christian Science Monitor and reads it religiously. He seems to imagine there's some "objective" space "in the center" where real news is transmitted. I don't see things that way at all.

@66gardeners I'm not sure why — except to say those names aren't household names even for people who follow the news carefully, and that might explain why there's little discussion of the fact that they're with NYT.

@alterelefant I don't see how that's possible, when he represents a singular threat to the whole world.

@GreenFire @CelloMomOnCars @MeidasTouch Thank you. I agree — a good media outlet. I read articles there frequently and should probably subscribe, if that's an option.

@CelloMomOnCars @lillyfinch Same here. I have a longtime friend with whom I swap emails about twice a week. Have done so for years. She's a classic liberal, Ph.D., grew up on the East Coast. She has subscribed to New York Times since 1960. And she astonishes me by saying she sees nothing unfair about how NYT has dealt with Biden. I can only assume she's a type of longtime reader who lives in a certain bubble — but what a confining, distorting bubble it seems to be.
