I first hand lived China gaining access to multiple tech companies. It was the product of lack of diverse thinking - nobody with power seeing the huge flaws in security, and chains of white middle aged managers meeting their performance objectives and collecting their shares.
Maybe more diverse thinking orgs is the solution, actually.

@GossiTheDog Diverse-thnking - yes. DEI for DEI's sake - no. The emphasis must be on the thinking, not on the looks.
But the free market seems to be taking care of this. Several companies have ended their DEI policies after the customer backlash they have received.

@SallyStrange @bontchev @GossiTheDog Agreed. If people weren't biased and racist we could live in a world where people could be just hired based on their qualifications, not their looks or visible or invisible disability. Alas we don't live in such a world.

@compuguy @SallyStrange @GossiTheDog To me, "We have a DEI policy" sounds like "We're proud to announce that we employ in equal numbers redheads, blonds, chestnuts, and black-haired people". Who cares? It's stupid. The only thing that matters is - are they good at their jobs or not.
Wouldn't you be offended, if a company hired you because you happened to be white and not because you're good at your job? I know I would be and wouldn't want to work for such a company.

All it really says is that they are maybe taking steps to not be discriminatory; which seems like it might be necessary considering that in the twenty years that researchers have been repeating the experiment where they send out tons of resumes where the only difference is a typically white sounding name vs a typically black sounding name, the typically white sounding names get callbacks more frequently.

Like, if a company has an org chart that has a drastically different demographic population from wider society, then that implies one of two primary causes;
The company in question has historically engaged in discriminatory hiring practices in the past (which DEI efforts seek to remediate)
Minorities are, in aggregate, less worth hiring relative to non-minorities.
So the thing is, if someone argues that DEI policies are bad, unnecessary, or make an organization weaker in some way; that seems to strongly indicate a belief, implicit or otherwise, in that second cause for an observed hiring disparity.
