I spent 90 minutes at a Market Basket supermarket in Biddeford, Maine this morning. It was the closest fast public charger to our beach hotel -- about 15 km from the shore. I had a coffee and did some work in the supermarket cafe.

I don't think many businesses are aware of what a competitive advantage it is to have EV chargers in your parking lot. When I'm traveling, I seek out restaurants, cafes and other businesses that have chargers. It takes 30-90 minutes to get fully charged, and I'm happy to find a place to have a meal while I wait.

For hotels, I LOVE finding a place that has a medium-speed charger that I can use overnight. Come in with a low charge, and leave in the morning at 100%? Heaven. I'm going to pick that hotel every time.

Movie theaters, supermarkets, restaurants, whatever. If you have a business and you want people to come spend an hour or two, and a chunk of money, put in a fast electric charging station. If you want them to stay overnight, put in a slow charger. It's a magnet for customers.

@evan just back from 3 days in Shetland with my dad, at the mercy of slow chargers in desolate carparks. So constrained by that bloody car, it felt like a terrible use of our limited time. At least the views were nice 🥲 (next time I'm going by myself, and using the buses!)

@evan
even a slow one like 6kW would do.
A 2h movie and you get between 50 to 100km of mileage back.
Anyone would even be fine with 3kW as long as it is free. -
@evan do you mean Biddeford? We love the Maine coast. Spent an anniversary a few years back in Ogunquit and took a whale watch out of Kennebunk.
Not close to us in Vermont but wave if you go through!
FYI we have decided to spent US Thanksgiving in Montreal this year.

@rickscully I did indeed! I updated the original post. The Maine coast is wonderful.

@rhiaro aww, that sucks. Our best conditions are when a bank of chargers are put in right next to a historic downtown. We can get a meal or snack, shop, see the sights, and be back in the car to move along afterward.

@ZikZak I'm not even worried about price! I just want to be able to keep moving.
