@simplycorbett yeah, but I'm really tired of getting things confused with Linux and stuff and it seems that every other software docs aren't nearly as clear as Mastodon and it gets me confused at some points.
Like quite a few start the docs with "You need a server with these things installed before we start:" and proceed to list things that I have no idea how to install or make sure it works with their software so I literally can't.
If they don't give instructions on how to install dependencies and get it running with their software, I can't install it. I'm absolute linux noobs and basically need my hand held.
Took me almost a week to get Sharkey setup back in May and I wasn't even 100% sure everything was running correctly.
I tried Pixelfed in August and gave up.

@BeAware What are you on? Ubuntu 24.04? I can write up a guide for you for iceshrimp.net, I’m just not sure if you would stick with it because it’s unfinished.

@simplycorbett Yeah, I don't know either, that's another thing. I'd have to try out a few different softwares before i figure out which one i'd like more. I'm interested in IceShrimp, but Akkoma also interests me a bit.
Might have to register alts on some instances over the next few weeks to try things out.

@BeAware Iceshrimp.net has a gui but you really would want to use an app like Mona. The coding backend on .net is far, far ahead of the GUI.
If you are after a good user experience with a gui then iceshrimp.js is what you should use. There will be a migration/upgrade path to .net once it’s finished.
Anyway I’d be happy to spin up a vm and write a detailed guide for either .js or .net. If you’re on an older Ubuntu install you probably want to upgrade.
I’d be happy to also provide you with a regular user account here but like I said it’s barebones. -

@simplycorbett I mostly use Fedi from my phone anyway through IceCubesApp or Ivory.
Any installation i do would be on a fresh server so I could install any Ubuntu version.

@BeAware I’ll write out a guide for 24.04 then later tonight or at some point over the next couple days. Do you want it for .js or .net?
Last I checked ice cubes app mostly worked but ivory is hard-coded to mastodon and won’t work with other software… yeah. -

@simplycorbett I guess .net
Ivory doesn't have anything that IceCubes doesn't have️

@simplycorbett tysm bro. I really appreciate it. I'll hit you up if I want to try your installation beforehand. I've been pretty occupied lately so it might take some time before I get into things.

@BeAware I’ve never made a guide before, this is very time consuming. But it’s coming along!

@simplycorbett You can take your time bro. I won't be ready to swap super soon. I have a lot going on rn.️ No need to rush it.
