@ainmosni out of properties.ini (or whatever) that Java uses or Environment variables, I think I'd wanna pick Environment variables tbh

@ainmosni depends! If I have a helmchart that can take an entire JSON (or similar) config, that's nice. Especially if it's something where I want to, and can, configure pretty much everything in code.

For secrets, obviously envvars are useful.

For basic config of simple services, I like them because they keep the service simple.
