Got my mail-in ballot. I firmly believe that significant action outside the electoral system is necessary to make progress on the many problems that face us. I think of voting a bit like brushing your teeth, a hygienic action that helps forestall decay.

I have no faith in the electoral system fixing everything - not even, in fact, the most pressing issues currently. Especially since I live in a country that is insignificant in the grander scheme of things.

But "by any means necessary" is horseshit if you silently append "except voting".

@abucci I said yesterday that to me, the two most important issues right now are avoiding World War III and mitigating climate disaster - and that's why I'm watching the current US election with horror.

I don't think Harris would "fix climate disaster" or "stop World War III", because those are things that aren't within a US president's powers, whoever that may be.

I'm worried about Trump, because exacerbating climate disaster or the risk of World War III *is* within a US president's power.
