"Today, Rich Lowry, the editor of National Review (the flagship conservative magazine founded by William F. Buckley Jr.), published an article claiming that Donald Trump could win the 2024 election 'on character.'”

@Reallyblue3 It does, indeed. We saw this recently in the riots in the UK.

@the5thColumnist The only real point I can see to the Secret Service detachment is for security reasons. I'm not inclined, too, to keep calling out-of-office presidents by that title.

@Tom_Joad Yes, absolutely. And I'd hope McMaster is aware of that.

@wdlindsy Probably the White House too, if Trump gets elected. He'd probably make her National Security Adviser.

Took a closer look, and sure enough you are right about the gender split...
To quote the NZ poll coverage:
"Digging deeper into the Talbot Mills data, some 50% of men preferred Harris, compared with 31% who backed Trump.
The margin is much wider when it comes to women: 61% supported Harris, just 11% supported Trump."
Exclusive poll: Who do Kiwis prefer out of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump

@wdlindsy I don't think most of the anti-abortion crowd want fewer abortions. If they did, they would pump money into programs that would support mothers and children, removing as many obstacles to having children as possible.
Since they don't, clearly they don't want less abortions. They want to *ban* abortions, regardless of whether it's successful. They just want religious laws on the books. That's it.

@cherold Yes, I think the bottom line for the "pro-life" movement is control of women.

It used to be respected as the “paper of record”, but it’s been at least two years now that editorial opinion has shaped the perspective of news reporting and this paper has lost its reputation, its clarity and its relevance.
It stood up to #TheFelonyGuy at first, but the money of the owners of conservative media is valued above reporting the news. -

@CivilityFan I look back to 2016 and see how they treated Hillary Clinton and see a straight line from that behavior back then and how they're behaving now. And, yes, I think the bottom of all this is the economic interest of corporate media owners and top managers.
