Every now and then I like to talk about how much money I pay for software and online services. (Mostly because I'm very proud of this airtable base I made to track our spending.)

But I like to show people the total. There is a fuck ton of money available if you actually give people what they want.

FYI, here's a link to a basic template for this digital services tracker. The neat thing is you can model subscriptions that get paid weekly or yearly as well as monthly. The "Monthly Formula" column normalizes the cost so you can actually get a baseline monthly total. That was very useful (and eye-opening) for me.

@brianleroux your feelings are gonna be hurt. But you gotta push through it.

I am also very proud of the time I spent developing the categories and tags.

I posted the wrong link to the public airtable template. This should be the correct one. Also edited to be correct in the post above.

@polotek Iβve got a similar tracking system set up in Notion. Super helpful after that initial shock of seeing our total.
Also: which airtable plan costs $60/month but still doesnβt qualify as essential for you?

@kvangork Airtable is just expensive. i pay too much for it because I really like it. And I get a lot of use out of it. But I could drop it if I had to.

@polotek $700+ per month?!?! Yeah, no thanks. Here in Italy I know several people, even in IT, were this would be almost half of their net monthly salary. Sometimes I feel US companies donβt understand the salary ranges in the rest of the world

@lucaotta don't worry, you definitely make more than devs in China. You're not at the bottom.
