I'm still not sponsored or affiliated with them, but in case you've been thinking about Proton, they have pretty good deals now

@Techaltar, and all... Watch out for their import app and their bridge. Just tried to switch from MS365 (supported). No errors reported, but 40% of emails and folders missed. No logs. Bridge app drops characters and lines from emails. Lots of bugs in the client. Support takes days each request, and after weeks, I could not get the help needed. I prepaid an annual plan, which they eventually refunded after I threatened chargeback. Sorry to say, just not professionally developed nor run.

@beachseeker huh, not good!

@Techaltar you opened my eyes to opensource and within a week I switched to proton, firefox, brave, linux, and now mastodon

@bramweijs welcome to the cult

@Techaltar I gave them a shot but there is a *huge* caveat to their solution which should be made more clear : you can't sync their apps with the contacts list of your phone (due to encryption).
That's a deal breaker for me and I imagine many others. Can't manage 2 contacts list
That's interesting bc their commitment to encryption is of course commendable... but as is, it's either too much (bc it blocks usage), or not enough (the endgame of what they're trying to do here is... a new OS).

@ghostinthemuf Huh, you are telling me you are organized enough to have one single contact list across your phone and all your email services? I just have random contacts spread across random services anyway, but in that case I can see why that would annoy you

@Techaltar For a time I maintained my own carddav / caldav server for this, then I got lazy and setup a Google account to manage contacts and calendars, and only that (no mail, drive, etc.)
On my devices, I centralise my mails and calendars through local clients (Thunderbird / K9mail), which - like the contacts list on Android - are able to sync with the Google account. I don't use the web services.
This way, I can send a mail from my Outlook account to a contact saved in my Google account.

@ghostinthemuf Well you could technically use Thunderbird with Proton Bridge and have your contacts synced in a separate account I guess? I tied doing that and it seemed to work. Calendars are another issue and IDK how it works on mobile
