I see that https://community.nodebb.org/recent.rss currently returns:

Not Found
You seem to have stumbled upon a page that does not exist. Return to the home page.

Is that feature still available?

@danielflippance clicking on the link to the rss in the /recent route loads the rss without issues.

If you post the link in a topic, it shows as error. So, looks like an issue with URL handling in posts.
