The most flattering thing someone can do for you is to base their work off of your work. The easiest way to achieve this is to insult their work.

Insults are an attack and a lack of respect by default, they cannot be considered flattery under any circumstances.
The opposite case is criticism, which, even if it is harsh, can be made with greatest possible respect. Besides, to make a critique, first you have to analyze the work properly, that in itself shows commitment, and THAT'S flattering.
It is not good to assume, but maybe you confused both terms.

So when people are celebrating their haters, they are insulted? No they are flattered that somebody else spent the energy being angry. If I can stir shit up and make you mad, as long as you won't hurt me I'll love the attention

Who in their right mind "celebrate" their haters?
-
Who said anything about "right mind"?
-
Well, that explains everything.

The most flattering thing someone can do is deem your work worthy of adding to, like building on a good foundation. What you're describing is detracting from someone else's efforts to divert their attention from creativity to bickering with you. If they manage to create something good out of it that's a credit to them and nothing but shame for you. I disagree with your take completely.

It isn't even a take. I'm not like teaching a seminar on it ffs
Have you ever watched a YouTube video that was a response to someone else's YouTube video? That's all I was thinking about, this entire economy of foul discourse. Is this a super serious shower thoughts comm?
