Should ActivityPub servers also provide RSS feeds?

@evan @alexstandiford qualified no, for the same reason i don't particularly want my SMTP server to also serve RSS. (i might have a different idea of "activitypub server" than many people.)
that said: i can see it potentially making sense for outboxes. or possibly even collections in general. just not a lot of sense, depending on the architecture. (they might be better off as two separate servers pulling from the same source of truth...)

I'm a qualified yes. I think it's a nice to have if ActivityPub subscriptions are already available, but not a top priority.
-
@evan I've actually been thinking I'm interested in the reverse— AP clients/instances being able to ingest rss
-
@mcc we have bridges for that, though.
-
@evan the ones I have tried do not work well
-
@evan like there is at least one major rss bridge app that at some point just broke and stopped providing up to date data with no associated deprecation announcement
-
@mcc do you think this would be a good project for a non-profit foundation to take on?
-
@evan *helpless shrug*
-
@mcc I'm putting it on our list. Thanks for the idea!
