Thanks so much to everyone who hung in this week as we’ve all worked to fix the state of the Nix community. It’s been a ride; but I think things are going to get better.

Here’s the last major piece of the puzzle — the product of several months of work from an absolutely incredible team. It’s not ready for a full announcement, but we’ve opened our beta so people who are fleeing the core Nix community have a place to go.
Lix Matrix (protocol) logo
Lix is an independent variant of the Nix package manager, developed by a team of open-source volunteers, and maintained by and for a passionate community of users.

@ktemkin I tried joining the Matrix space, but when I do I don't see any rooms available to join
-
I can't join either. Space is not accessible, and also unconfigurable in the servers list. Might be down, or there's nothing public yet?
-
@smallcircles @jakehamilton @ktemkin one of the tvix developers is in the lix core team. we know it well
-
@smallcircles @jakehamilton @ktemkin there are public rooms in space:lix.systems, with no invite required, but maybe matrix is being haunted?
-
That is delightful
PS. I just signed up to the aux.computer community forum. And saw that @jakehamilton created a topic mentioning #Lix:
The Future of NixCPP: Lix
Today Lix announced their public beta. I recommend that everyone go check it out, this is a very big moment for the Nix world! Lix is a modern, delicious implementation of the Nix package manager, focused on correctnes…

Sharing the excitement there. Thanks for your great work done already! I hope the communities will collab closely together in Auxy Lixy ecosystem that is shaping up :blobaww:

Guess so.. Matrix always weird when it comes to different servers than matrix.org .. I'll see if I can get in somehow. Thx.

@smallcircles @leftpaddotpy @jakehamilton @ktemkin try
#open-beta:lix.systems
! - if you addlix.systems
to your federated instances it's the channel that shows up. -
@arcayr @leftpaddotpy @jakehamilton @ktemkin
Ah yes, it worked, thank you. In the matrix/element "Add server" dialog after typing lix.systems I got a red warning that no server found. That's a lie.. ignore err msg and just click Add and then Matrix gets an 'Aha Erlebnis' and suddenly sees chatrooms..

@erincandescent @ktemkin @jakehamilton @leftpaddotpy
What I did in Element UI was:
- Explore public rooms
- Show server dropdown > Add new server ...
- Type lix.systems .. matrix complains 'not found'. Just ignore that and Add anyway
- Suddenly Matrix is enlightened and shows the one public room.
