"This election has made me more afraid for the future of the United States than any previous election. Not simply because Trump is running, but because the fact that he’s running—and doing as well as he is—after a disastrous four years in office, revea...

"We talk a lot about how authoritarianism might arrive in America someday, but in this sense, it’s already here: The United States has a very large population of people who look for, absorb, and believe anti-American messages wherever they are found, whether on the real Fox News or the fake fox-news.in. Trump was speaking directly to them on Tuesday."

Trump is possibly the first modern politician whose ENTIRE platform is based on nothing more than his own bigotry, insecurities and greed.

@wdlindsy This line in Anne Applebaum’s piece is the crux of the biscuit:
“What happens next is up to other Americans, the ones who don’t believe that their country is cratering into chaos & don’t want a leader who will burn it all down.”
I absolutely believe there are more of us — devoted to democracy, justice, fairness, & improving our nation & society — but it won’t matter if we don’t wield the power of our numbers by voting en masse to overcome all the obstacles the R party has erected. -

@wdlindsy Elon Musk is a danger for everyone. And most of them are very pleased because they are still following this open sewer X.

@TuutW I very much agree. Because I knew this, I left Twitter and shut down my account there the day he took over control at Twitter. I absolutely was not going to post on a site he owned.

@Laloofah Yes, I agree — a powerful line. And you draw exactly the right conclusions from it.

@sufferforme I think of Hitler and Mussolini along those lines. I recently read an article reminding me that because he didn't like pasta and regarded eating it as unmanly, Mussolini tried to order his countrypeople to stop eating pasta. Talk about leting your own bizarre prejudices dominate your politics.

@wdlindsy
These are the same people that rebelled when the government suggested that they wear masks. They are not bright enough to realize that dictators give orders not suggestions. -
It's not a larger part, so much as a very small part who convinced everyone they should control the media because if anyone else did that would be stealing. Blame the victims all you want, the few orchestrating it are laughing their asses at how easy it was to pull the wool over your eyes.

@cy And you're addressing whom with the word "your"?

@72mz You're absolutely right.
