Because the Democratic Party tent is wide, there's, of course, a wealth of commentary this morning from all different angles about the opening night of the DNC. But one theme seems to tie much of the commentary together: as Brian Beutler notes, it's th...

And, of course, this report (/10 and /11) is a reminder that the broad #Democratic coalition includes many people of faith, who don't deserve the contempt and arrogance dished out to them by many on the left, who seem to imagine that they have some special corner on the truth market that allows them to treat others just as contemptuously as dogmatic religionists often treat the rest of us.
This is tragic, the willingness of some of us to tear up a fragile but much-needed coalition.

"This week will be gutting for Trump, as Democrats gather in Chicago for the convention that has transformed (with Biden stepping aside) from dreaded funeral to celebratory festival. ...
Trump’s going to spend this week watching the cool kids make fun of him, but—worse than that—he won’t be their sole focus."

"Democrats didn’t love Hillary Clinton in 2016, they weren’t excited by Biden in 2020, and those campaigns were dominated by Trump.
Trump is about to face something he never has in his nine years in politics. The Democrats’ convention will cement that he is no longer the main character."

"With eyes and cameras now turned toward the DNC in Chicago, as more and more polls reveal that even red-leaning battleground states are moving toward the Harris Walz ticket, Trump is feeding his craziest wolf and letting that poor beast howl at every opportunity."

@wdlindsy this is why we will win. Adapt to changing information environments. I wonder how many have cancelled NYT and Wapo this year.

This is an incredible development. It has become clear that billionaire owned corporate media is a big reason that Dems have been losing for the last 2 decades. I love that Kamala and Joe both told them to f*ck off. Now their formula is working really well. I watched the convention on the DNC YouTube streaming channel. Not one minute of MSM "commentary". -

@wdlindsy I notice that when Semafor's article complains about the higher costs compared to the RNC convention, they fail to even consider that running an event in Chicago is much more expensive than running an event in Milwaukee.
Nothing against Milwaukee (it's my birthplace!), but Chicago venues can demand higher rates. -

"In voting for Vice President Harris, I assume that her public policy views are vastly different from my own, but I am indifferent in this election as to her policy views on any issues other than America’s Democracy, the Constitution, and the Rule of Law, as I believe all Americans should be.”

Retired federal appeals court Judge J. Michael Luttig, a prominent conservative legal scholar put on the bench by President George H.W. Bush, is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris over former President Donald Trump, whose candidacy he describes as an existential threat to American democracy.

@Godfrey642 @wdlindsy
The fighting spirit is generating enthusiasm, which translates to massive fundraising hauls, more local offices, and volunteerism, which results in more people likely to vote. This was the biggest concern when Biden was the nominee. -

@lin11c I'm with you. The corporate media have done everything short of stand on their head now for several decades to undermine the Democratic party politically and to slap the left wing of the Democratic party into its "place," while telling us incessantly that the only "real" Americans are white right-wing Republicans in the heartland. What's that all about, I wonder? I think it's all about the economic self-interest of the owners and top managers of the media.
