@vwbusguy The first thing I *installed* it to disk on was an HP laptop I had in my first year of college; it was Ubuntu 8.04.
Before that I'd played with Knoppix live CDs on our family computer (some Compaq; I don't remember the processor model). This would have been 2006-ish. I also played with Ubuntu 7.xx live CDs on that same computer when I found out that Canonical would send them to you in the mail
Edit: for reference I'll be 35 in a month.

Shipping Gnome by default and built on top of Fedora should also mean no problems getting my usual ML stack up and running

@fallenhitokiri Heck yes! As a heads up, it's Atomic (immutable) so more like Fedora Silverblue than Workstation under the hood. You can most definitely do ML with it.
