Lemmy today
-
What's the red one? I've seen that icon multiple times by now.
-
Backup Chinese spyware since TikTok is going down.
-
RedNote, a China based TikTok clone that TikTok users are flocking to as a form of protest.
Lemmy tankies have mostly latched onto it because they see the TT ban as the US government censoring their totally-not-CCP-propaganda machine. Even though the laws enforcement mechanism mostly amounts to having app stores delist it (Website, already installed apps and sideloaded should all remain working)
-
If I were a nefarious government whose spyware psy-op app was being banned I'd start an astroturf campaign to get people to swap to a different app controlled by me by using the algorithms in my current about to be banned spyware app.
Just saying.

Loops is very early access IMO, the loops app is more barebones and error-prone than the early Lemmy apps of last year
But it's absolutely a good start and I hope they can get it up to par quickly
-
Rednote, it's like tiktok/insta, but chinese.
There's a lot more interaction between the Chinese and American users than tiktok ever had.

I don't want any of that shit.
Short form video content is a waste of Internet bandwidth and time. I don't want to watch any narcissist filming their face talking about anything. Same goes for youtube talking heads.

Tbf the software hasn't even reached gold yet, so the fact that it's able to handle users at all without serious problems is extremely impressive

It is more of a instagram clone than tiktok clone IMO.
-
I have a feeling that this is not going to work intended

Except red note has been in China since 2013 and available in America since 2023....

The content can be fun, the platforms are cancer.

Cool. Not for you then, eh?
"Bakery down the road is closing" the person on the street corner says to anyone listening, "here are some alternatives"
"I don't eat baked goods, they're bad for you" you reply
"O- oh okay. Thanks for letting me know... I guess. Wasn't really talking to you, then"

okay, but I'm on loops and there are almost no "talking heads" it's mostly nature, tourist attractions, cats and other pets, ppl dancing or musicians, funny incidents, drone videos, trains, memes and a few computer game clips i don't get.

That's cool I suppose. I also can't get past the garbage portrait video format that everyone uses. People should pay attention to the names of those orientations, Portrait and Landscape, as they are a good indicator of the proper usage.

Nothing. The whole "movement" reeks of astroturf.
