@emsquared Daft indeed, and Americanised. Some might say they are the same thing.
When I was there in the late 90s, even though the high rising intonation was a bit difficult to get used to - they were at least friendly and trying to have a conversation.
Recently everyone seems to be angry and just want to moan about politics and rat race.
Small sample size though.

@ada Ha. We were there around the same time then. I believe the Gravy Day thing was after that time. Been listening to ABC Sydney again recently and a lot of the wonderful positivity I experienced when there is, like you say, a lot harder to find. It's an expensive country to live in now.
