““Cowardice”: Washington Post Blasted for Not Endorsing in 2024
The controversial move at the Jeff Bezos–owned paper follows the Los Angeles Times, owned by billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong, also bucking tradition. “These decisions,” Margaret Sullivan tells VF, “are appalling.” - Vanity Fair https://apple.news/AAS352ilRRLS5dd0V-uG7Yw -
2/ “Tommy Vietor, former Obama staffer…wrote on X that the Post “endorsing Harris would move exactly 0 voters her way, but still lol at this cowardly shit from the crew that brought us ‘democracy dies in darkness.’”
Chuck Todd, while admitting to be “agnostic about impact of newspaper endorsements,” wrote “the unintended consequence of this decision…is exactly what makes this all so demoralizing to actual working journalists. When rich guys & publicly traded companies cower, it hurts all of us”

@GottaLaff What Bezos said in 2013: “There would be change with or without new ownership,” he said. “But the key thing I hope people will take away from this is that the values of The Post do not need changing. The duty of the paper is to the readers, not the owners.”

@nomdeb @GottaLaff I wonder if a decade is a natural limit for how long a billionaire can own something like that and resist the urge to break it
