Time for a Change: Health Journey Begins!
Starting tomorrow, I'm committing to a healthier lifestyle. Lately, I've been out of breath from just walking, and some recent events have been a wake-up call.
In Q2 of 2024, I lost a dear friend, only 28, to a heart attack. And already this year, I've lost family friends in their 50s and 60s. It hit me hard, and I realized I can’t take my health for granted anymore.
I’m not a gym person (I’ve tried, it’s just not for me).
My plan is to:
Cut down (or completely cut out) energy drinks and fags.
Start eating better.
Walk instead of taking the bus, as long as it’s under an hour.
What I need most, though, is motivation. I’d love to find someone to do this journey with me other than my parents or my fiancée (she’s super supportive but loves food a bit too much, haha).
If anyone has words of encouragement or tips, send them my way! Let’s build a healthier community together. ️

@michaeljburgess Hi Michael,
wish you the best for your journey.
I lost 15 kg a few years ago and a food tracker really opened my eyes.
I had no idea how many calories I was consuming every day.
I used https://www.yazio.com/en, which in my opinion was the best at the time.small but regular steps! don't overdo it with the walking, otherwise you can quickly lose interest. besides, it can be really exhausting at the beginning

@michaeljburgess I try to run around the block once or twice, that's 15-20 minutes and 1.5 to 2 km. That's a good start every day. and get yourself a pedometer!
the recommended 10,000 steps a day is great, but in my opinion not a good place to start.

@michaeljburgess It's not just the quantity that matters, but also what we eat.
A lot is happening in #microbiome research!
yazio pro also tracks fiber. That should be at least 30g per day for adults. I bet you're not eating that much at the moment
I've now found a breakfast that gives me a big chunk of my fiber in the morning. Then add some fruit and vegetables and the day is saved.i don't know if there are any english books on the microbiome, it's best to google it yourself.
