"oh no" indeed

@cmdr_nova so the person posting those screenshots either controls the server or is in close contact with somebody who feels comfortable leaking stuff FROM the server

@nus yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the admin
I mostly use the reporting system to give myself an easy way to suspend accounts and instances in my admin interface, and also to poke fun at people like this, who are running an instance entirely based around theft. I'm sure he thinks I submitted it because I think he'll be banned but no haha I did that just to get under his skin

I don't like that you're using the report system to "get under a staff member's skin", but yeah, it also discomforts me to see this person posting a report with an instance name on it. Very harassment adjacent behavior. And Nus, this is the instance owner.
Edit: I asked the instance owner here to remove the name from the post, and they went ahead and did that, so my complaint no longer applies.

I had an issue with the screenshot, because it should not say the name of your instance like this, but when I asked the person who posted it, they quickly removed it. Posting it here for the reference of anyone who was more concerned about that than the AI. -

@Raccoon IMO sometimes applying a scratch test to moderation teams can be super valuable to get them to reveal their true colors.
I know, I can be a little annoying sometimes but sometimes moderators of popular Linux instances start talking about decapitating people.

Yeah, that wasn't too long ago, so it's a bit hard to forget. Still, my main issue was the posting of a report without removing the instance name, and they deleted the screenshot without complaining, so I don't really have an issue: AI generated stuff isn't against TechHub rules. It's fine if other instances want to have that rule, and I can see why you would, but we don't want to enforce that here. -

@Raccoon @cmdr_nova i think its funny that their profile is like "if you like what i do, buy me a coffee!" tf. you drink water and fossil fuels, what good is coffee for you? i wish someone would fight club-ending all the ai servers.

Buy my server farm half a bottle of drinkable water

@nus @Raccoon @cmdr_nova why thats why i put water in there.
just consider... *before* ai, we were already talking about water shortages. how private companies were buying up land around the colorado river in order to obtain water rights. and then overnight we created a completely fucking worthless industry to suck the world dry of whatever water is left. its outrageous. its truly incredible that humans think of themselves as so much more intelligent than other species, when we're almost literally the frog in beaker sitting on a boiler. -

So, just a reminder, this is not all AI servers.I have run multiple AI systems on my computer right here, even trained a couple. They were not quick and they were not highly advanced, and training took hours, if not days, but they ran on this laptop.
The specific systems they are talking about in these articles are like, the server-farms on which chat GPT instances are trained, and which are used to run single queries from huge numbers of people quickly enough to justify going over the cloud and not just running it locally.
So, this isn't really a critique of AI enthusiasts at home or smaller level applications, this is a critique of capitalism deciding that keeping the models absolutely restricted was more important than reasonable use of water.
