I wish Mastodon and Pixelfed would merge into 1 app

Welcome to the Fediverse. They kind of are.
Pictures posted on Mastodon can be viewed on Pixelfed and vica versa. You can follow Pixelfed accounts on Mastodon and Mastodon accounts on Pixelfed. It takes some getting used to, but the app just defines how you see the post. It's actually very cool !!!
Check it out! Create a Pixelfed account too. What's it look like to follow your Pixelfed account on Mastodon? Your Mastodon account on Pixelfed?

@mastodonmigration
ā©Agreed but itās also confusing and a barrier to entry. Plus, people donāt want so many apps.
ā©I think Mastodon and Pixelfed should be one app where you can filter to only include photos/videos or not.
ā©Allow the scroll/flip functionality once youāve clicked on a photo/video to replicate TikTok scrolling.

Pixelfed and Mastodon are made by different developers for different purposes. They communicate with each other, yes, but that's like saying Google Search and Wikipedia should be the same app because Google supports showing summaries from Wikipedia.
-
Good analogy.
-
Perhaps the Mastodon and Pixelfed developers can add a dedicated feed into their respective apps from the other app? Or at least the ability to filter a combined feed by photo/video only or not (and provide the flip functionality for photos/videos).

- That's the thing, they already do. You can view and reply to content from one app via the other.
- You can edit posts on Mastodon, click on the three dots. This'll add your post to tags if you added some.
- Friendly tip: tag spamming is seen as unacceptable on Fedi. People usually use the two or three most relevant ones. I.e. three variants of the TikTok tag aren't needed, just use #.tiktok (and in this case, don't use it at all, as it's unrelated). Other people interested in the topic will just follow the tag, you don't need to gameify your posts like you do on corporate social media.
-
@Getoutside737 @mastodonmigration I can talk with someone on say pixelfed.social through this tech.lgbt (mastodon) account like any other account.
-
Hmmm. If there are petty rules like this i am out. Thatās the way we do it on X/Twitter. Iāll give this app a few more hours but definitely not happy to see your comment.

As mentioned above, it takes some getting used to.
There is a lot that is kind of more confusing about the Fediverse distributed public social media. It's certainly not as clean cut and polished as the corporate apps, but guess that's the price of freedom.
Agree with you about barriers to entry. That keeps improving, but it will never be as slick over here as the big corporate 'walled garden' platforms. But give it a try, you might find lots to like better.
-
@Getoutside737 @mastodonmigration it's not petty rules, it's what people do here now. You don't have to follow that, culture changes.
The reason I told you this is to explain how exposure works here. You need two things, tags and boosts. People boost by what they deem to be a quality post. So if you want exposure, you need to decide on a balance of tag count that you like.
-
Simply put i donāt have time for a mod to bother me about a hashtag. Iād rather use X. Fediverse is doomed to fail if there are so many rules. Unfortunate but it is what it is.

It's not a rule. You be you. Think it was just a suggestion. But, if you don't feel like this meets your needs, that's cool too. Thanks for checking Mastodon out and for inspiring the post about how to search for videos.

Think you are misunderstanding the comment.

@Getoutside737 @mastodonmigration
Please re-read my post: I didn't give you any rules to follow. I told you how the software, and the culture that arises from it, works. What to do with this information is your choice.
No one will bother you for tags on mastodon.social. But there are instances that would; every Fediverse instance is moderated by different people with different backgrounds and ideologies, so don't take it too personally if you're blocked: different people use the Fediverse for different purposes, and therefore, block different things.

Not a rule but is āunacceptableā. Iāll test this app for a few more hours as i said. Maybe i was too optimistic. Too much content moderation ruins apps and fediverse wonāt work.

Entirely up to you. Again thanks for checking it out and the idea for the explore tip. Hope you find what you are looking for.

@Getoutside737 @mastodonmigration
There's no such thing as content moderation on the Fediverse. Every instance does things differently. You're on mastodon.social; I'm not on .social, but I am on Mastodon, on a different instance, that has different moderation rules and different social expectations, just like any subculture or club in real life.
For example, I also have a tooot.im account, in Hebrew; and the rules on that one are wildly different to both .social and tech.lgbt.
But you don't need to worry about this. You need to worry only about the rules in your own instance, the ones you were asked to read when signing up. If something doesn't appear there, it's not a rule. And if it does, it might not be a rule on a different instance.
