Videos attached to posts that include the word 'music' published before April 24, 2024:

Welcome to the Fediverse. They kind of are.
Pictures posted on Mastodon can be viewed on Pixelfed and vica versa. You can follow Pixelfed accounts on Mastodon and Mastodon accounts on Pixelfed. It takes some getting used to, but the app just defines how you see the post. It's actually very cool

Agreed but it’s also confusing and a barrier to entry. Plus, people don’t want so many apps.
I think Mastodon and Pixelfed should be one app where you can filter to only include photos/videos or not.
Allow the scroll/flip functionality once you’ve clicked on a photo/video to replicate TikTok scrolling.

Pixelfed and Mastodon are made by different developers for different purposes. They communicate with each other, yes, but that's like saying Google Search and Wikipedia should be the same app because Google supports showing summaries from Wikipedia.

Perhaps the Mastodon and Pixelfed developers can add a dedicated feed into their respective apps from the other app? Or at least the ability to filter a combined feed by photo/video only or not (and provide the flip functionality for photos/videos).

- That's the thing, they already do. You can view and reply to content from one app via the other.
- You can edit posts on Mastodon, click on the three dots. This'll add your post to tags if you added some.
- Friendly tip: tag spamming is seen as unacceptable on Fedi. People usually use the two or three most relevant ones. I.e. three variants of the TikTok tag aren't needed, just use #.tiktok (and in this case, don't use it at all, as it's unrelated). Other people interested in the topic will just follow the tag, you don't need to gameify your posts like you do on corporate social media.

As mentioned above, it takes some getting used to.
There is a lot that is kind of more confusing about the Fediverse distributed public social media. It's certainly not as clean cut and polished as the corporate apps, but guess that's the price of freedom.
Agree with you about barriers to entry. That keeps improving, but it will never be as slick over here as the big corporate 'walled garden' platforms. But give it a try, you might find lots to like better.

@Getoutside737 @mastodonmigration it's not petty rules, it's what people do here now. You don't have to follow that, culture changes.
The reason I told you this is to explain how exposure works here. You need two things, tags and boosts. People boost by what they deem to be a quality post. So if you want exposure, you need to decide on a balance of tag count that you like.
