I recently wrote a post where I ranted shared my thoughts on the IndieWeb. As a result of that I had a great exchange with... https://manuelmoreale.com/the-social-web

@cory oh yes this is good. I also think "indie web" is a good term that has become conflated with IndieWeb and it's confusing.
Personal web does seem nice. Hm.

@sarajw yep! I think the former is very much distinct from the latter and I’ve implemented less and less of it lately. I just want to own my own data, take things slow and communicate thoughtfully.

@cory yeah I am on the IndieWeb webring but that's it. All the other stuff I've ignored as it all seemed complicated and onerous to code up

@sarajw haha yeah, I had *some* microformat code in place, but I wasn’t sure if I’d done it right and it ended up feeling a bit like bloat.

@cory @sarajw Yes, my learning curve on this wasn't flat either, but the point is that non-developers are struggling with the spelling of Htm... Htlm ... HTML, but expect functionality where there is none per se in the first place. The #IndieWeb standards and tools built into simple endpoints, which my wife (educator) can also use and which satisfy her, is the way to more personal websites.

@sarajw @cory She hasn't even been on classic social media and only surfs a little. But she would have something to say if it was easy and convenient to use. I'm already struggling to reply to blog posts because even IndieWeb bloggers don't link to their syndications and I have to search around. Standards like IndieWeb's help to simplify and enable...

@cory @sarajw @kiko Just because something is a standard, it doesn’t mean that people will actually use it now or in the future. Outside of the comparatively small IndieWeb community, hardly anybody uses them. Even the latest IndieAuth is dropping (in client information discovery) the use of microformats (which says a lot about the place for microformats in the current web).

@kiko @cory @sarajw Alles klar.
Just because you have a standard, it does not mean it will be a success. It has been many years since they were published, and adoption outside the community has been minimal. I don’t think any advocacy will be change that. The world has moved on and they have failed to adapt to the change. (1/2)
