Well, the BC NDP has probably won a minority government.
Let's assume that they do win minority, how likely is it that they will… Form a coalition with the BC Green Party to form a majority over the conservatives?
I mean, during a time *in* this year's election, when the conservatives had a brief minority over the NDP, Eby announced that the Greens and NDP will form a coalition.
But that was only during the time when the NDP was losing during the ballot count.
But now that they are likely to win minority, how likely is it that they'd still form a "coalition" to rule ahead of the conservatives even further?
I feel this is such an odd question, but I may be wrong.
The reason why I feel it's odd, because I've only heard of coalitions being a strategy to overrule the incumbent minority ruling party.
But here, it's a totally different ball game.

@manlycoffee the only reason the greens have to dangle a potential conservative coalition is to extract a better deal from the NDP, practically I don’t think the modern conservatives have much to offer the greens. While cons and greens have more common ground than anybody expects (environmentalism is fundamentally small-c conservative) the current Con anti-LGBT and anti-science-is-a-real-thing stance is enough that I believe a fruitful coalition with a progressive party is vanishingly unlikely

@cube_drone @manlycoffee The BCG have more common ground with the BCC than you might think
The old joke about the BC Greens is that they’re “Tories on bikes”. There are socialists in their tent but they have a right wing too
The BC Conservatives are the new kind of “conservative”, meme-fueled populism
There is a growing constituency for trad-pilled suburban folks who espouse purity-of-fluids conspiracy consumerism. That sort of person could vote Green or Conservative

@neilk @cube_drone hey, I had no clue about any of this. This is enlightening.

@manlycoffee @cube_drone It’s sometimes been called the “wellness to QAnon pipeline” and has been covered by many researchers and outlets. Here’s just one https://amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/aug/02/everything-youve-been-told-is-a-lie-inside-the-wellness-to-facism-pipeline
I know someone who is an osteopath here in Vancouver - that profession straddles esoteric and mainstream medical knowledge. Their whole community is pretty antivax and prone to conspiracy thinking about it. So the person I know would probably be pro-vax in isolation but is deeply torn and hides their true opinions
