"Donald Trump would have been convicted of crimes over his failed attempt to cling to power in 2020 if he hadn’t won the presidential election in November: that’s the finding of Jack Smith, the special counsel who investigated him.

@wdlindsy I live in Germany and was right now really shocked to see this election advertisement from the party whose leader worked at BlackRock - they really believe while surfing on the global fascist vague that they have already won over the whole world!!!

@lotuslumineux Yes, the arrogance is deep and piled high. Let's hope that hubris prepares the conditions for its downfall, as Aristotle told us many centuries ago it inevitably does.

"From what I see and read, most of the country has currently put itself in a trance, a state of paralyzing denial over Trump, over what his election means, and over what we should do about it. We don’t really want to think about it. We are dillydallying, waiting to see."

"Like a lightning bolt, it struck me —most Americans simply didn’t care. The realization was crushing, a bitter truth about the apathy of my adopted country. Since immigrating to the U.S. in 1985 and becoming a citizen in 2000, I've believed in the resilience of the American electorate and its capacity to discern the dangers of demagoguery. By 2024, that belief was shattered."

"As with his sentencing in New York following his conviction by a jury on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, Trump remains fixated on how history will record him, and perhaps more immediately how he will be viewed by the public and the world during his second term."

"Today, we face the deep injustice of Trump having escaped a trial and conviction. But one day, when the history of this era is taught, it is Smith’s exhaustive report, and not Trump’s online bloviations, that will stand as the definitive narrative of the crimes that took place."

"The constellation of factors that led to this point is well known. Among the most critical were the Roberts Court's unprecedented decisions on the Disqualifications Clause and on presidential immunity combined with Trump's historic re-election."

"The damage done to the rule of law, the constitutional structure, and the norms and traditions that gird democracy have been incalculable. The consequences of this miscarriage of justice and breakdown in the rule of law will be reverberating in unknowable and unforeseeable ways for decades."

@wdlindsy
Its bad enough USA went through a coup. What's unimaginable is that the felon guilty of TREASON in his own homeland was on the ballot and will be president again.245million Americsns were legally eligible to vote; only 72million voted for him. Around just 30% of the vote.
Unimaginable; but happening in front of the world's eyes.

@Godfrey642 I very much agree.
