Heather Cox Richardson puts her finger on a major theme running through commentary on the DNC this morning:

@MaryAustinBooks You're exactly right. In this thread, you'll see an excerpt from an article by Evan Hurst making that same point.

@jgordon @msbellows I'm not ever really in the business of predicting the future. I wait and I see β and do all I can to avoid self-defeating cynicism and sustain hope.

@PattyHanson You're exactly right. And adolescents, in particular, are just not given to displays of sham emotion when it comes to their parents.

@nutmeg I think of many media types as having vastly overinflated egos, which shelter them from recognizing how others see them. For many of them, arrogance seems to be their middle name.

@crdfilm Yes, there's a deeply twisted gender thing going on with these comments, the claim that they and they alone corner the market on masculinity, which is impassive, dominating, non-expressive and non-emotional. Sad, pathetic notion of masculinity.

@LALegault @MintSpies I'm not seeing the misogyny. Granted, I'm a male and surely miss a lot that's readily apparent to women. But I've never seen Keith Owens saying anything at all that seems to me remotely misogynistic. I would think that his brilliant wife Pamela Hilliard Owens wouldn't put up with misogyny in her equally brilliant husband. I think a real gift of the African-American community is its strong sense of solidarity β Black men sticking up for Black women and vice versa.

I want him to know how much his pride for his father, his authenticity means to all of us wholesome, good Americans -
