So thinking about titled lists in aside elements.
1. They should be marked as heading elements
2. They are in an aside, they should not be marked as heading elements, they are not in the flow of the document -
@a11yMel for discoverability i would mark these up with headings.
what’s the context for this aside? is it a sidebar?
-
@moiety the aside contains the site's sidebar, yes.
I think using `aria-labelledby` and pointing to the listitem that titles the list would maybe be more appropriate, but I am of two minds on it so I wanted to get some feedback.
I sort of expect the heading elements to be more about the sections of the page itself, and the aside, from my interpretation, isn't in that flow but is outside of it, to provide support.
(also I could be over-thinking this)

@a11yMel @moiety So, if it's a site sidebar, than I'm assuming in the source order it's all after (or maybe before) the main content. I don't see a problem with putting a heading there. But you'd want the heading to clearly give some extra context. Maybe with a hidden extra heading for the sidebar as a whole? (like "Blog Archives" or "More Product Categories" or something)
If it was an aside in a long article, then you'd need to be more careful about heading levels within the section structure.
