I absolutely hate the sensation of static shocks. I always have. I would go to great lengths to avoid them.
Something about this winter has made things especially bad, and now I reduced to walking around the house with a pair of pliers and touching every lightswitch screw with them as I walk by in order to make sure I stay discharged.
We're talking REALLY REALLY big ones. Shocks that pass through multiple layers of clothing. Shocks that can be heard across the room. Several cm long arcs.
My sister's dog booped my leg with it's nose and it startled me enough that I knocked over an end-table.
'sreally bad!

@rgegriff I use a ring to “tap” anything that would usually shock me, but I’m not sure that works sufficiently for the kind of arcs you’re describing

@rgegriff I'd suggest that you get a humidifier but I suspect you've already done that as part of your great lengths.

@thatnateguy I have one in my own apartment that is pretty effective.
Unfortunately I am staying at my sister's for the next month or so to help out with some stuff.

@rgegriff @thatnateguy I’m very curious why it is some people have this more than others. Do some of us have more micro-movements charging us? Is there some kind of “potential” in some people’s body, or are we more positively charged than others?
I honestly don’t know, but I know empirically not everybody has this the same.

@avuko @thatnateguy Right!? It's super interesting. But also infuriating.
I thought that maybe it's because I'm a big guy with lots of electrolytes and dielectrics and maybe I just have a high capacitance; but my very tiny person niece is also prone to shocks.
We're both various flavors of neurospicy, so maybe we just fidget a bunch of charge into ourselves

@rgegriff the thing that makes them the utter worst is that you never really know when they're coming, or how strong they're gonna be
it's just a little shitty surprise every time
