Google Messages's UI is a straight-up copy of Signal. I wonder if having both Apple and Google support RCS will end up killing Signal? I plan to keep using it because I know they won't do client-side scanning.

@[email protected] yeah, I can say with a pretty high certainty that even if Apple or Google decided to implement exactly what makes Signal so appealing (open source, auditable, strong encryption) I still wouldn't touch them with a ten meter pole for anything I wanted security on.
The trust just isn't there and it never will be. Not while Google is an advertising company (which is just shorthand for surveillance nowadays), or headed by that McKinsey fuck. And even if they stopped being a surveillance company, they'd have to work really hard to build back that trust. I suspect a lot of other Signal users feel the same way.
