The sheer amount of people who stopped wearing masks as soon as they were optional demonstrates how many people never understood why they were wearing them in the first place, which is a tremendous and ongoing failure of institutional public health

@currentbias lots of people ranting in here about people not wearing masks, but I want to know, when do we stop wearing masks?
Covid is not going to go away without a fully 100% effective vaccine.
Do you expect people to wear them for the next 50, 100 years? -
Without a sterilizing vaccine? Absolutely. Unless you think the health consequences of endless infection are worth it. And even then, it's not a decision you're making for yourself, it's a decision you're making for everyone you share air with. Air purification and ventilation are great for long-range aerosols, but as long as people are gathering close-quarters and launching aerosols directly at each other's faces, respirators are how we adapt to the world as it now actually is
-
Unless we deploy far-UVC in every space imaginable, which is the most expensive of available mitigations by far
-
@currentbias ok.
-
@currentbias I don't think that's a realistic goal.
-
@MobileOak fatalism is a bad look sweetie
i get you're scared at seeing everyone around you give up, i too am terrified at seeing the eugenics on display, at hearing my friends describe COVID symptoms while saying "there's a bad cold going around" while they do nothing to curb the spread. it's pretty fucking grim
but, to answer your question, "to what end do we keep up?" the simple answer is that the goal is not to catch it. every infection dodged is a victory
in the end, you'll either lose all your friends because of incompatible precautions, or you'll lose all your friends because you'll be too disabled to participate in society
contact a local mask bloc when you're ready to be supported in the quest for sanitary self-defense
-
@croissant @currentbias I stopped reading because of your condescending tone.
-
@MobileOak if you need someone to take a certain "tone" before you listen to them, that's on you
to this i ask a question,
who respects you more? the one encouraging you to take your health into your hands, or the one politely telling you to get disabled by a plague?
