There Is No Such Thing As “Just A Joke”.Jokes serve a very serious social function, and are an important aspect of online radicalisation.
Those of you who know my history by now may not be surprised to learn that I have spent a lot of time trying to understand how cult psychology works, how abuse works, and how bullying works, not because I think this stuff is interesting but because it’s been essential to my survival.
So believe me when I say this screenshot is not “just a joke”. It’s a manipulation technique we call The Whopper.
The opening part about misogynist commenters is just to get your head nodding like, hey, yeah! fuck those chuds!
the poison pill is the non sequitor at tbe end about anti-bullying campaigns.
The entire construction is a set up to put the idea in the reader’s head that these two topics have something to do with each other- maybe anti-bullying campaigns train people to leave misogynistic comments on the internet?
So when i pointed out that anti-bullying campaigns are there to protect girls, disabled kids, and queer kids FROM misogynists and bigots,
at first i thought that maybe he didn’t know what he was doing.
but the followup told me that i was on the right track
