A theme running through much testimony by eyewitnesses as Hitler's fascist movement rose to power in Germany was that the Nazis initially represented only a limited percentage of Germans.

@wdlindsy the conundrum being that these people, as you've pointed out, have thrown virtually all the hallmarks, all the fundamental elements of their "religion", right under the bus, then kicked the remains into the sewer, in supporting a movement, with a vile, corrupt, immoral leader, who has promised to dismantle, and ignore until done dismantling, the core of the system of governance that protects their "religious" freedom. Nearly the perfect definition of Enemies of America.

@wdlindsy Republicans did a better job of making up problems that don’t actually exist, using disinformation and generally lying to people to play at their emotions and get them to vote for the fascist candidate. That’s it.

@wdlindsy Let's be honest, it targets more. There are other trans people who work there. And there will be trans people wanting to visit their representatives.

@markstoneman I think Ginny Hogan is surely aware that in targeting Sarah McBride, the Republican party is mounting an attack on all trans Americans. By focusing on Sarah McBride, Hogan is point out the extent to which Republicans in the federal government will go to single someone out as a trans person and the object of their hostility.

@Acronymesis And none of that making up unreal problems would work if many of us were not disposed to swallow lies and disinformation.
-
@havvyhh2 Yes. Very well-noted and well-stated.

@davidpnice Or perhaps the ancient Greeks and Freud? Both-and instead of either-or?

@GreenFire Is this an either-or choice? White evangelical leaders have for years now had very close ties to Putin and share his disdain for LGBTQ people and women who get out of "their place."

@jstatepost Thank you so much for telling me they're worthwhile. I'm very grateful.

@Arqtec Ah, to be young again…. I was 19 in 1969 and had no real inkling I'd be one day old, gray, and slow. As my neighbor says, if medicine could only learn a way to transplant my wise old head onto the body of a 20-year-old, all would be wonderful.

@humanhorseshoes Or perhaps these are people who sincerely believe in their version of Christianity, which is not in any shape, form, or fashion Christianity in any deep traditional sense.

I just don't think that we'll be able to begin effectively addressing the damage the Kremlin's hybrid warfare on American society has done until we begin to more vociferously acknowledge that it has happened and is happening. -
William Lindsey :toad:replied to Kevin Leecaster last edited by
@GreenFire I don't see this as an either-or.
-
@wdlindsy @jstatepost and this week, I have been covered up in mundane chores and events, but I am still reading and thinking. Please don’t stop.

@wdlindsy
Nor do I. I see it as a more as in more pointing out that the Kremlin is ginning up more of the division in the U.S. and other countries than we acknowledge here in the USA.I was not critiquing your post though. I was just trying to bring more attention to the fact that the Kremlin's political technologists have done to our society. Perhaps it was out of place on your thread about evangelical churches and their political power in the U.S.

I’ll say it again: we have to figure out how to combat the disinfo machine or we’re doomed. The majority of us are literally voting for undoing thinking it will make us “great again” because they truly believe it will.

@wdlindsy
Part of my post was intended to say the world of my youth does not exist anymore?
That THIS is a cautionary tale
We all have a experience that as time separates us from its evolution, we miss and then reflect on it disappearance
The Hawaii of 1969 does not exist anymore
I have a 1acre parcel that is beautiful but also a volcano that reminds me of natures strength
We need to defend what we love
Age creates the memory of our success or failure
Young people need to see their future
AND ? -
@Arqtec Yes, I know. That's why I responsed by saying what I did. And your question about how young people can see their future is a very good one, it seems to me.
