I wonder if there's utility in having some sort of "degrees of association" ranking system for dealing with spam accounts. Whereas like the 'Web of Trust' model originally envisioned for PGP, but in this case, not being about asserting legitimacy of real identity, instead just a "not a bot" rating.
Mainly where you'd endorse someone else's account as 'not a bot' on some sort of scale of: recent online acquaintance, long-time online friend, or have met in-person plenty. The risk of course is that such a thing could be abused for datamining, although, some of that could already be heuristically inferred (follower status + frequency of interaction/replies).
This is just a musing of distantly watching the happenings of Nostr in dealing with spam, and seeing if there's ideas that could be implemented in ActivityPub-land first before implementations of key-based portable identities are more widespread.

@arcanicanis I think in ActivityPub-land domains will play an important role even after introducing portable identities. If some gateways will start spamming they can be easily blocked

@arcanicanis The first requirement of AP in this regard is that, when somebody follows you, you have to make an informed decision about whether or not to add them to your followers list. If this could somehow be enforced, then a web of trust could be constructed, i.e. your followers list is also your trust list.
-
@khleedril @arcanicanis Personally, at this point, I don't care too much who follows me.
If they want to know when I post something that's fine, but I don't have any kind of trust in them that I'm trying to indicate by allowing them to follow me.
( I've got the "auto accept follows" option on )
It seems like trust would need to be represented another way.

@zicklag @arcanicanis This is precisely my point: if you were forced to care, if you had a social contract with AP, then the accepted followers list would be more useful in this regard.
