I remember proposing using GIMP to do a task it would have actually been well-suited for to my high school teacher like a million years ago
-
@researchfairy yep I had the same experience trying to use it at school!

@researchfairy I'm working with a company right now where they won't let it be installed on any machines due to the name. We're having to fallback on Paint.NET for any editing work

@[email protected] "we can't get rid of our brand, we'd lose all the benefits it brings!"
the 'brand': actively holding them back*
*okay, really what's holding them back more than the shitty ableist name is their fucking attitude about it and refusal to listen to anyone, but. -

@[email protected] @[email protected] I wish they'd pull their head out of their ass. The name pisses me off everytime I see it.
-
@[email protected] @[email protected] if explicit racism had been more socially acceptable when these software projects started, the fucking names these assholes would probably have picked, I swear.

@aud what annoys me too is when someone also point out its ablest, and people who's only exposure to the word is via Pulp Fiction come back with a "no its not, its just a hehe funny word"
meanwhile I grew up that rural lifestyle with farmers that used it in reference to injured animals and people, and I'm like... no guys I'm pretty sure its not just that

@[email protected] right? And even if wasn't ableist... I wish I could make them understand that "you know the sex thing isn't better. right? you get that's not better. in fact that's potentially even worse."

@aud @researchfairy Meh, I think Krita's better anyways...
-
@[email protected] @[email protected] Krita is really, really good! I've specifically been learning how to use it for photo manipulation even though it's more 'painting' focused specifically because they seem to have a much better set of attitudes...
-
@aud @researchfairy I used it to paint this mask onto my avatar here!
(its my virtual Halloween costume)

@[email protected] @[email protected] I used it to create the trichrome photo (well, I mean. To put the various images together I shot, that is) that is my instance's background when you visit it!
I also used it to create my instance's terrible icon just a poorly manipulated image of my adorable kitten. -

@[email protected] @[email protected] ah. It refers to someone who takes a (usually very) submissive role during BDSM activities. It's not always necessarily sexual, but sexuality is often a component of it.
There's a scene in Pulp Fiction where it's used to refer to a character (identity unknown) dressed top to bottom in... I think rubber, who is... "available", so to speak, for various acts on demand.
I think if my explanation isn't clear, you may wish to (carefully) google more.
