"What’s been really striking this year is that while traditionally deep distrust of the mainstream press has long been the province of right-wing Republicans, now it’s liberals who once cheered for the media to do better who seem to be giving up on them."

@chessert AP has long disappointed me, though I'll read material there that appears to offer good information or commentary. I do read The Guardian daily, but I read the UK version primarily because I think I get enough US news from other sources and want to try to keep up with UK and European news via that "part" of the Guardian.

What is indeed quite remarkable is how paper thin 'journalistic ethics" have turned out to be. The image of the intrepid gumshoe has taken quite a beating.

@wdlindsy This isn't a new or unprecedented situation in American politics. FDR's fireside chats came about because he needed to bypass the media and make his case directly to the American people, just like Kamala's doing now. She's taking a page from his playbook.

@wdlindsy This is concerning. Why do today's young men choose to wear blinders and have tunnel vision? Haven't they been T-boned in some way during their short lives yet?
I can't believe that they're dense, stubborn...yes, but not dense.
-
Really don't know how to respond to such an absurdity. But for the sake of argument let's say young men are 'under attack'. Does not embracing the insanity of Donald Trump as a response suggest that such attacks would be warranted?
The reality unfortunately, is that young men are being told by people like you that they are under attack simply because young women are killing it these days.

Thank you for wording it so clearly. I feel this on a regular basis.
Edit: this is meant as a reply to @wdlindsy who responded to a suspended (and apparently misogynistic) account.
Or to put it briefly: no, men are not being oppressed. lol! Whoever thinks so needs to quit their whining.

@wdlindsy Online polarization being weaponized by propagandists preying on young and romantically insecure guys. Making the liberated feminist women look like “woke” demons instead of strong, well-informed, courageous, intelligent, free citizens. Propagandists are taking the raw material of typical youthful insecurity in young men, and molding it into incels. Bots, folks.

@wdlindsy You have an entire generation of young men steered by the poisonous patriarchy drilled into them by their fathers. As women have rightfully become more independent and autonomous, some of these young men simply can't handle it. They haven't learned how to ACCEPT this and ADJUST -- in short, to be decent men. Trump echoes their anxieties, however unfounded, and stokes the toxic embers of unfettered misogyny. It's a sad and disgusting state of affairs. He's dangerous in so many ways.

@wdlindsy Who would have thought that slapping a new coat of paint on the same shitty policies would be so popular?
It's like the inmates celebrating a new crop of guards at GitMo.

"As trust in mainstream media plummets — from 72% in 1976 to 32% today, according to Bunch — candidates like Harris are increasingly bypassing traditional press channels in favor of direct, curated communication through social media personalities.
But how did we get here? The answer involves a combination of media missteps, changing technology, and a political landscape unlike any we've seen before."

@wdlindsy @mastodonmigration The answer to why we don’t trust billionaire-owned media conglomerates is that they killed or ate all of our local media sources, and instead cater to the whims and desires of their oligarch overlords. It is really that simple.

Agreed. This is another article that treats as a mystery something that at root is very simple.

I haven’t seen the New York Times mention the surge in voter registration among marginalized demographics or the number of volunteers for Harris. They do run lots of commentary about “vibes” or about how challenging the campaign will be (thanks, Nostradamus).
.
They disgraced themselves when Joe Biden was the candidate, but now they’re finding new ways to suck.
