"Of all the American princes of the Church, outside of that ridiculous popinjay Raymond Burke, Dolan is among the most insufferable. He plays the jocular, backslapping Irishman while his rap sheet on burying the ongoing sexual-abuse scandal is one of t...

@davidpnice Yes, I agree. As Charles Pierce says, speaking as a lifelong Catholic himself, Dolan has long been a disgrace to many of us who see something very different in Catholic teaching and practice than Dolan does.

@wdlindsy The Catholic Church FAILED to be what they pretend to be. It wasn't about charity; it was about supporting a facist!!!

@wdlindsy its interesting to note that Project 25 plus the behaviour of USA tradcaths appears to have quietly shifted ETWN to be more *liberal*, something I didn't expect would happen!
(They've even dumped Gab and Trump Social from their social media presence on the "yoof" site ChurchPop). Its not an overt "mea culpa", but they do appear to be regretting some choices..

@wdlindsy Shocked that the Catholics would be open to authoritarianism. Has anyone alerted the Pope?

@luv_wins I'd say a certain sector of the Catholic church has royally failed to live up to what it professes to believe — the sector represented by the US Catholic bishops and the 60% of white Catholics that keep voting for Trump. Latino Catholics and Catholics of color move in a very different direction.

@tafkak The trend to authoritarianism among white Christians in the US, with 81% of white evangelicals and 60% of white mainline Protestants saying they'll vote for Trump, does not surprise me. It's a deeply rooted trend in US culture — as is anti-Catholicism.

@vfrmedia Interesting. I had not been following those developments. I understand your surprise!

@mamiyaman Absolutely. Absolutely disgusting.

@JoCzechowska I'm going to keep my sights on the broader perspective as I see that 81% of white evangelicals and 60% of white mainline Protestants are poised to vote for Trump this election.

@wdlindsy Don't look under the stain.

Every Catholic should be thoroughly ashamed of their church leadership and this "charity" organization. I think the only charity the Catholic cardinals serve is themselves.

Their religion has become simply an excuse for their racism. It's shameful.

@wdlindsy Trump was friends with Jeffrey Epstein; of course he's going to like Cardinal Dolan.

@wdlindsy The anti-Catholicism rhetoric heard out of trump is disgusting.

@wdlindsy I COULD NOT believe that. How naive, that they thought trump would support ANY charity, let alone Catholic Charities? In Nov 2018, Trump was forced by court order to pay a total of $2 million in damages to eight charities, which also received equal portions of the trump foundation’s remaining $1.8 million. Why don’t people know this stuff???

@MoiraEve I think many of these folks are stuck in a mental world that believes the rich and powerful — rich and powerful men, above all — count more than anything. I'm very sure this is the mental world in which Dolan lives. It's the mental world in which a majority of the US Catholic bishops live. They are far more CEOs of a corporation, businessmen, than pastors. So they feel an affinity for Trump and show us, as they do so, how shallow their values have always been.

William Lindsey :toad:replied to MoiraEve last edited by
@MoiraEve It is. And yet, six in 10 white Catholics are reporting that that they will pull the lever for Trump all over again when they vote.
