Yesterday i asked the organizers of the local #June14 #FeministStrike, if there will be #MaskBloc at their march.
Their response: Nope, we didn't have time to organise one. That i should organise it, they said, to later add, if I wear a mask it would be safe for me to attend, "as research shows this is enough to protect oneself".
Ugh. This of course needs a debunking. But where to even begin?
Allow me to start with the blatant misinformation. No, that is precisely NOT what research shows.

While one-way masking does offer some protection, it is proven to be much less safe than if a group masks.
Second, no, we the chronically ill & disabled are tired of always having to ask for inclusion or to be asked to organise this stuff ourselves. Just so tired.
Third, to individualise responsibility in such a way (just wear a mask) is what neoliberalism demands of us. But it has nothing to do with solidarity, care & inclusion, which the feminist & other leftist orgas write onto their flags.

Fourth, no, the issue was not that you did not have enough time to organize this, the issue was, that this was too low on your list of priorities.
But even beyond that, a mask bloc does not only create much safer circumstances for endangered people to attend, a mask bloc is also a message.
It says, we don't believe the lie that the pandemic is over. We take active measures to include and protect those among us who are endangered and worthy of inclusion and protection.
