Given the poor accessibility score of the web app, this concern seems valid.
You can check the Accessibility Score for Mastodon.social at: https://userway.org/accessibility-checker/?url=mastodon.social
I’d appreciate input from the #mastoadmin community on a couple of questions:
Are there any accessible UI alternatives available?
How do the mobile apps measure up in terms of accessibility?

That's the same score they give Twitter X, Facebook, Instagram and others. Not a true way to test for accessibility.
I'm thinking they can't access Mastodon or other sites with reactive elements.

@michael @jeff @rolle
At the first tool at w3c, https://www.w3.org/WAI/test-evaluate/tools/list/,* mementomori.social got a score of 60 https://www.accessibilitychecker.org/audit/?website=mementomori.social&flag=us
* Mastodon.Social got a score of 64. https://www.accessibilitychecker.org/audit/?website=mastodon.social&flag=us
Seems like the issues could be fixable easily to reach the goal of 90.
Some of the tools listed at w3c passed both with higher scores.

136 open issues that concern accessibility of Mastodon: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+accessibility
I don't know the roadmap in this regard and @accessibility is not very active. Maybe @renchap can shed a light on this?

@rolle we try to do our best regarding accessibility when working on frontend code. But nobody in the team is an accessibility expert, and we do not get many contributions on this topic. If some people want to help this will be welcome!
I would also not rely on automated audits for this, thats a complex topic. We got a few offers for accessibility audits, but then the issue becomes fixing the issues, and the core team wont be able to do it unfortunately
