"Yesterday, Trump staged one of the most insulting PR stunts in the history of modern politics, and the corporate media covered it like it was a brilliant, game-changing maneuver. Visiting a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania, Donald spewed lies about Kamala Harris, and briefly pretended to work the fryer. Then he held a deranged 'press conference,' and another hate rally."

"Once again, the corporate media took Donald’s bait and ran with it. They found a way to spin the story to look great for Trump, propping up his campaign like they always do. And it’s an outrage."
Plays 'em like a fiddle. Every. Single. Time. Because they WANT to be played. Letting someone strum their strings rather than going out and doing the hard work of gathering information and telling the truth is just too hard.

@wdlindsy "But did you know that this McDonald’s was actually closed to the public during his visit? That the people Trump “served” in the drive-thru were hand-selected supporters? That no one actually placed any orders—they just received whatever Trump handed them in a bag? And that this entire stunt lasted all of 15 minutes?"

"What has only become obvious over the past decade (to those of us who haven’t professionally studied fascism in Europe in the 1930s) is that the buffoonery and the fascism go hand in hand. They are inseparable. The buffoonery doesn’t make the fascism less dangerous, and the fascism doesn’t make the buffoonery less ridiculous."

How would the corporate media react to a Trump win?
"The top execs would be unlikely to resist for long based solely on principle. Corporations’ mission is to make money, and you don’t make money if the government shuts you down.
"We’re already seeing media behavior that could be interpreted as “anticipatory obedience” in case Trump wins."

@wdlindsy Won't be long before the MAGA Kool-Aid drinkers will be flying flags that say, "McFascist! I'm Lovin' It"
Why are companies like McDonald's even allowing this? Sad. -

@wdlindsy NYT would never use as critical a phrase as "involuntary gatherings."
They would call them "kinship clusters"
And local TV news each morning is even worse. The praise that flowed this morning on both CBS and NBC was shocking 🤮
No acknowledgement that the location was closed, he was incapable of lifting the fry basket, it lasted 15 min and the whole thing was a cosplay media stunt. None.
If he wins, I won't cry when they're all out of jobs

The restaurant was closed to the public during Trump’s visit, and the motorists whom Trump served were screened by the U.S. Secret Service and positioned before his arrival. No one ordered food. Instead, the attendees received whatever Trump gave them.
Trump was at the fry station for about five minutes and spent about 15 minutes at the drive-through window, much of it taking questions from reporters.

"At this time in history, as the menacing cloud of fascism threatens to descend upon much of the world, it is crucial to understand that the normalization of violence and the rise of fascism in the age of gangster capitalism are deeply intertwined. As violence becomes the defining feature of political life, democratic institutions are eroded, and the space for critical inquiry shrinks."

@wdlindsy that poll shows a 10 point drop on that question (from 68 to 58) since February. Suggestive that Trump's demonization of immigrants is backfiring.
Considering how systemically biased towards rule-following American public opinion is, imo that small majority is not a good sign for Trump and the republican party.

Italians and the Irish were targets of anti-Immigrant fervor at one time - just saying.
The Irish were the first targets of deportation policy in the US
In the 1840s, destitute Irish-Americans were seen as foreign and often sent back to Europe

"Where the Blame Lies" Labor struggles were not the only conflicts Italian immigrants faced. During the years of the great Italian immigration, they also had to confront a wave of virulent prejudice and nativist hostility.

Did you ever play Monopoly with your friends as a kid? Remember that last section of the game that seemed to last forever...when one guy was winning and the rest of us had to trudge endlessly around the board getting every last dollar squeezed out?
Thats the stage of capitalism we're at now.
