@mookie I've enabled it on my instances mostly because it forces instances that do behave and don't try to bypass an instance block to genuinely get blocked / prevent access to posts. I think it also helps if a user blocks a remote server where the remote server will then be rejected further data on their account iirc but that might be wrong. There is a small performance hit with enabling it iirc but I've not noticed anything so bad it's worth disabling it.
-
@mookie if you or any users in your servers are using blocks: probably yes. Otherwise no.

@michael It's just me

@mookie Did you spin up another Mastodon instance, then? I kept thinking you went to another fediverse platform. Curious about the thought process and experience with what you went from to and back to Mastodon. Did you recycle your domain to use with Mastodon, etc, etc.
-
@mookie I easily changed my character limit to 5000. This wasn't the guide I used but it's the same tasks. Just a couple things to change in a few files. Nothing big.
It'll be nice to debug and mod the same software again with you, as you always pop up with help for me.
I've done enough stuff with Mastodon, and broke and fixed enough, since you left, I might actually be the gifter of knowledge instead of the receiver for a change. lol
Increasing or Modifying Character Limits and Poll Options in Mastodon 4.3
Mastodon imposes a limit of 500 characters and 4 poll options. Here's how to change them.

@paul Nice! While I can do this, I am going to leave it alone -- I want to keep my install vanilla. I wish that this setting could be set via the Web UI or configuration file.
-
@mookie There's talk that that and a few other customizations might be coming either through the UI or env.production file.

@mookie Oh, if you are interested, there is a Firefox and Chromium(Google Chrome, MS Edge, Vivaldi, and others) extension that fills posts of replies, etc, your server doesn't know about and you don't see, now that you are using Mastodon again.
It's called Substitoot
