To support our talented creators, we're exploring privacy-respecting monetization options for a small creator fund.
Would you be open to this idea? Let us know!

@dansup Developing an alternative to Tiktok only to end up making a Tiktok-clone, great...
-
@01 Whats wrong with this? better people on a free and open source tiktok alternative, than one powered by a privacy unfriendly, ad machine.
-
@dansup But I’m not against donations for a creator. However, setting up such a system directly within the application doesn’t seem like a good idea to me, for the reasons I mentioned.
-
@01 well the thing is that most people don't have access to this level of monetization, we can democratize this in a way that isn't possible on the big platforms.
You have to see beyond your own insecurities and the huge impact this could bring to creators across the fediverse.

@dansup Seconding that something like Peertube's "support" button would be fine. The creator fund sounds to me like something that could become an unexpectedly huge hassle :BlobhajHoldSassage:

@dansup I think it's clear that we need to be able to fund content creators if we want quality original content. It would also fill a gap in places like Canada, where creators don't have access to the Tiktok creator fund and must rely on partnerships with businesses. This has downsides both for the audience and the content creator. When you're paid in physical goods that you wouldn't be able to afford, you must consider a marginal tax rate, which... you also can't afford.
