One upside of this is that many autistic traits are seen as very positive ones in East Asian society. I was quiet and reserved, which meant I was ‘good’ and that was rewarded. I was studious and nerdy and hyper focused, which were also good things.

@skinnylatte I wonder sometimes about places like Finland, like how reserved in public most people are, low on eye contact and casual speaking to strangers.
My friend Inari, who is autistic but extroverted, was in Finland as a kid with family. Went up to another kid on the playground and said, "Hi, I'm Inari!" The other kid CRIED and ran to his mum, who said gently to her mum, "Sorry, your daughter's a bit too friendly," and crossed the playground
