Friendly reminder that the AllThingsTech.social Mastodon instance will be closing down permanently in just a few days.
If you are still a user on this instance you will need to migrate to a new instance ASAP! Once the instance shuts down, there won't be any way to move your account, get account backups or anything similar!
We apologize about any inconveniences this might cause.
If you have any questions, please reach out to @cliffwade or @beardedtechguy

Hey there, would you mind sharing a bit about your operational costs? How much does it cost per month/active user to run the server? How much storage and how big of a database do you have now?
Depending on how things are going, I *might* be able to help.

@raphael We've already shut everything down except the actual Mastodon instance itself which will be happening in the coming days. We have no plans to reverse this decision at this time.
Costs were about $120 a month. That's $40 at MastoHost for a very small 20GB database. Then another $80 for web hosting for the wiki, blog and some other stuff. That part likely could and should have been cheaper.
In the long scheme of things, this wasn't about not being able to afford it. It was about lack of time from both of us for the most part. Plus the fact that we wanted to be fully self-hosted, but just didn't have the time.
As I stated, everything associated with AllThingsTech has now been deleted, including the blog, wiki, accounts such as Ko-Fi, PayPal and several others.
I do appreciate the offer of helping, but we needed that a while back unfortunately.

I am sorry, I only became aware of it now.
If this is less about the costs and more about not being interested/willing to continue working on it (which is totally understandable), would you entertain the idea of moving the whole instance to someone else?
We can talk via DM or matrix (same username/domain) if you prefer.
