"Yesterday, the U.S. Army issued a stern rebuke to the Trump campaign over his visit on Monday to the Arlington National Cemetery...

@AnOldGuy So it appears — so it appears he imagines this is the case, and makes it be the case.

@peterbrown Yes, a very good point. Orwell had much to say on that score, didn't he?

@wdlindsy my mother was a narcissist. It’s definitely selfishness to an extreme. And really drives a person crazy that the narcissist doesn’t recognize it in themselves. They can do no wrong in their own eyes. I love Mary.

@Greengordon I'm not sure whre the material you're quoting is coming from. I don't spot it in Mary Trump's article, and had thought you were responding to that. What I've read is that the Army employee herself decided not to press charges.

@wdlindsy actually it was in a link to https://davidrothkopf.substack.com/p/nature-is-sending-you-a-message-about. that you posted about 8 hours ago. If you look at the people in the picture most of them also have their thumbs up. I’m no good at copying links or posting pictures.

@wdlindsy Oh look I did it! Guess I’m not as bad as I thought.

@SueDiOh When someone in any chain of command makes a complaint and then refuses to follow through with it — for whatever reason — that leaves people up the chain of command with a problem. The problem is how you can pursue a matter when the person reporting the infraction does not want to have it pursued.

@jredlund A "simulacrum of an emotion he doesn't have" is a very fine phrase here.

@zemsgram Thank you! Yes, that's the one I saw. And you're right: more than one person in addition to him is flashing a thumbs-up sign. They are, of course, his followers and the ones who invited him, so they themselves weren't offended, I'm concluding, when he turned the invitation into a political stunt. I'd say they expected that and delighted in it.

@zemsgram Thanks. Your copy came through. My aging eyes had trouble spotting all the other thumbs up, honestly, and I'm glad you've now pointed them out to me.

@DEDGirl You and I have that experience in common, growing up with mothers who were narcissists. I commiserate with you. Just yesterday, I told someone that my mother was the world's biggest drama queen. Her whole world was a stage and she was the only actor on it. Everyone else was stage furniture, a prop. But challenge her about the effects of her narcissism and cruelty, and you'd always, always get her retort, "I love you to death! I love you more than life itself." Narcissism = oblivion.

@wdlindsy yeah. One of the last things I said to my mother was telling her she was a narcissist & she responded with, “I’m not a narcissist! TRUMP is a narcissist!!” (He was in no way part of the conversation) I could only laugh. zero self awareness, but can recognize it in others. ️

@wdlindsy Not to mention it being yet another example of Trump's contempt for women in authoritative roles.

When I see a "Veterans for Trump" sign I'm going to be attempted to add a print out of this to the side...but then I realize that anyone who would put that sign outside their home would be honoured if that ass posed with a thumbs up over their grave.

Extra weird is that looking closely (to do the outline) made me realize that neither of the people on either side of him are actually in contact with him. There's a few inch gap on both sides. Contrast that with Harris & Walz and their joy when interacting with constituents.
