EVERY SINGLE DAY in parenting groups, I see posts that say "[family member] knowingly exposed us to an illness!

@nat I have to say, that I really thought that a global pandemic would have been enough to at least shift people's behavior in the West enough that they would at least wear masks when they themselves were sick, as has been common in Asia for decades, to prevent spreading germs. But...nope.

@gcvsa oh my god IF ONLY π«
One of many pitfalls of an individualistic society. We do not take collective responsibility by default.

@nat I would have said that Americans do not take *individual* responsibility, by default, because they are so wrapped up in their senses of individual entitlement.

@gcvsa ... yeah, that too. Basically, zero responsibility taken except *sometimes* when it's demanded of us. And then we are saints for taking the bullet and haven't you heard of forgiveness and oh my god why can't you let go of the past??

Debby: "I might be a tad overprotective, but hey, safety first, right? If someone prefers a face-to-face meeting but doesnβt have a negative COVID and flu test,
Iβve got just the thing!
Iβve got my stylish NBC suit ready to goβit's not only fashionable but also provides reliable protection from any potential threats. Who says you canβt look good while staying safe? -

@debby now we need one of those for babies

I dont think its just individualism, i think the republican christians and business owners also put a lot of effort into peer pressure to make mask wearing socially unacceptable.
I think some of them hate the reminders that you can care about other people, and the oil companies seem to hate the idea you might want to be cautious around others and thus might travel less and buy less fossil fuels.

@alienghic @gcvsa oh for sure! lots of pressures from lots of directions. community care is antithetical to capitalism and christofascism.
-
@nat I just read your profile, and ouch! Those are some extra challenging sucky childhood experiences.

@alienghic aw thanks οΈ yeah I'm very familiar with the christofascists... having been raised to be one myself. very far right upbringing to gaytheist pipeline
