Selling three of my #KeyboardIO keyboards.
-
@aburka I just fake it like it's a standard layout keyboard ("z" and "/" if I recall the questions correctly). It mainly cares about the keycodes, and those are standard US QWERTY unless you set it different yourself.
-
@randomgeek That makes sense, and I'm using a laptop so I can just look up at the builtin. I had a brief panic when I didn't get any response (even the dialog) at first, but it turned out I had grabbed a power-only USB cable. (Selling those unlabelled ought to be illegal.) Anyway, I'll get to some remapping -- and definitely increasing the spacebar repeat delay -- soon, but so far all works out of the box!
-
@aburka that's great!
Lotsa folks do all sorts of remapping, though all I ever tried was swapping space and backspace for gaming.
-
@randomgeek status report: getting steadily faster although I'm still hitting key combos by mistake. For some reason I refuse to track down, if I press Fn+Enter my computer opens iTunes and starts playing Jesus of Suburbia.
-
@aburka Interestingly specific! fn+Enter does play/pause, but usually of whatever's got something to play, and usually just the thing you have open.
Don't know if you found already, but the layout card from the support page might help identify default combos.
-
@randomgeek I never use iTunes, so if it opens it's gonna play whatever I was listening to 15 years ago
-
@aburka do you have any other keyboards with media keys you could try, see if the same thing happens?
Also, you may be able to examine, change, and worse case disable key combo layers with Chrysalis.
-
@randomgeek yeah, it's probably the default media key behavior. And I'm definitely going to get into modding soon!
-
@randomgeek (he says with a massive backlog of other maker-type projects)
-
@aburka And just so you know, Chrysalis is as easy as "go to that URL with your keyboard plugged in, look at your key bindings, and maybe change some."
I stalled for years on that and it turned out to be less than a minute for the change I wanted.
