First of all, the key point the quoted post talks about how election-related disinfo is likely to ramp up even more over the next few days, and links off to 5 ways to fight election disinformation on Bluesky and the Fediverse. With Xitter a fascist propaganda machine, and Threads/Instagram/Facebook shutting down accounts of people pushing back against fascism, the Fediverse is an incredibly important alternative. But, there's disinfo here too -- and we may well see more. So be alert for it!
The #1 point in the article is THINK before you post. Good disinfo gets you to react emotionally, and boost or reply without thinking. Please don't do that!
Even if it’s something you agree with, a few things to keep in mind:
* Is the information you’re about to share accurate and from a reliable source? If not, be very careful not to give it more visibility when you’re trying to debunk it.
* Even if the information you’re about to share is accurate, look at the headline and any images that you’re sharing to make sure they’ve got the right framing.
* Avoid headlines, images, and videos that include disinfo. Instead, look for headlines and articles that focus on the accurate information, or report that there’s disinfo but don’t repeat it.
* If you can’t find a headline and article that work well, consider just quoting a few lines from an article (or taking a screenshot) rather than linking.
* Only share screenshots of disinfo if you are clearly visually labeling them as disinfo. #uspol

And now for the CW meta-discussion ...
That was the fourth time I had tried to send a post to the Harris group. The first time was from this account, when it didn't get boosted I assumed it was a Sharkey bug (probably an incorret assumption in retrospect). Then I tried from [email protected] but it also didn't get booseted. But those posts had been CW'ed, because I usually CW political posts from these accounts (of course there are lots of gray areas what is and isn't political, but an election is clearly political). CWing political posts *isn't* the norm on indieweb.social, so I often don't do it from that account. So just to be scientific, I tried it from that account first with a CW and as expected it didn't get boosted. So then I tried it again without the CW, and it worked!
On the one hand, yay. On the other hand it shows how fragile the tooling is here, if I'm trying to be considerate to people who *don't* care about the election while still getting word out to the group that does care ... too bad for me. And what if I *didn't* have an account on an instance that's okay with not CWing political posts? #uspol
