Ok, I might as well start posting. I’ve been finding my way around Mastodon and who to follow. But apart from a few people, many interesting people seem to have joined a year or so ago but then haven’t posted anything for months. Do people come to Mastodon from that other place and then find it less exciting or not as straightforward to use?

@jimalkhalili I find there's not as much content here but the quality ratio is better.
You do have to put more work into finding people to follow as there are no algorithms serving up "more of the same".

Agreed. A week devoted to proactively seeking out follows made a big difference. One thing that helped: if somebody is posting interesting thing, look at who •they• follow. -

I may have something configured wrong, or it is a limitation of the app I use, but whenever I check who someone is following I can only see people on my instance. Which is still useful but also frustrating.

@ronpar
Huh, that certainly shouldn’t be the case. Do their other follows show up in the web interface?
